Project Description

Urban ReLeaf is a Horizon Europe project that develops and tests citizen science–driven approaches to improve urban environmental monitoring and support greener, more climate-resilient cities. Working across multiple European pilot cities, the project combines citizen-generated data with Earth observation, digital technologies, and urban analytics to better understand urban heat, green infrastructure, and local environmental conditions.

Through co-designed methods and participatory sensing campaigns, Urban ReLeaf engages local communities as active contributors to data collection and interpretation, integrating their observations into scalable urban monitoring systems. The project’s outputs aim to strengthen evidence-based urban planning, support nature-based solutions, and enhance the inclusiveness and responsiveness of urban sustainability policies across Europe.

The following scores were calculated using a statistically-driven machine-learning approach, a type of AI that learns to perform a task by analysing patterns in data. This is an experimental approach to citizen-science impact assessment, and the exact reasoning behind the scores is not explainable. The scores represent a best guess of the impact the project is having in each domain. Scores are recalculated and updated when “View impact report” is clicked.
